Ocean University of China (OUC, 中国海洋大学) is a national "Project 985", "Project 211", and "Double First-Class" (Class A) comprehensive research university directly under the Ministry of Education. Founded in 1924 as Private Qingdao University and later developing as National Shandong University under literary giants Lao She and Wen Yiduo, it established its oceanic identity as Shandong Ocean College in 1959, standing today as China's paramount institution of marine and maritime science.
