Harbin Medical University (HMU, 哈尔滨医科大学) was formed in 1949 through the merger of the former Harbin Medical University (originally Harbin Medical Specialized School founded in 1926 by Dr. Wu Liande, the pioneer of modern medicine in China) and the First Branch of China Medical University (originating from the Red Army Military Medical School). Administered by the Heilongjiang Provincial Government, HMU is a national high-level public health school.
